1. Open the Utilities folder with shift command u. This is done in the Finder. 2. Open Disk Utility by first highlighting it then pressing Control O for open. 3. Select the appropriate disk in the table, then click the repair disk permissions or repair disk button. Note While you can repair disk permissions and verify disk in the operating system itself, you must repair the disk itself inside the recovery partition accessed by pressing Command R at startup as soon as you hear the musical chord.
