If you have an iPhone, you don't need to worry about a separate Contacts app, since there is a Contacts page in the Phone app. If you have an iPod Touch or iPad, then it would be helpful to have Contacts in an easy to get to place. In the Phone app though, Contacts is the third of the 5 tabs at the bottom. Early on, I moved the Phone app to the dock on my iPhone so I can access it from any home screen.
