If you are concerned about wearing out the home button, which I think is a legitimate concern, turn on assistive touch. It is in accessibility, under the physical and motor heading, or ask searie to turn it on. Then, when you tap assistive touch, it, among other things, puts a home button on the screen, a little way above the real home button. If you do not like where the assistive touch icon appears on the screen, you can double tap and hold the icon, then move it to a more convenient place.
