Hope,
I really like the Direct TV app for iPhone. When you first install it, the
screen will appear inaccessible. Just tap the unlabeled button at the top
left of the screen, and that will fix it.
I use the app for accessing program listings, setting the recorder, watching
programs on my phone, and even for watching programs on the TV.
I'm not really happy with the iPad app because it uses a split screen which
I find really confusing for accessing the information.
