Hi Haya,

let's start with the basic requirement of good lighting. If the restaurant is
dark and there are no lamps or enough illumination, then you may have some
difficulty in getting Text Detector, TapTapSee, or any other object recognition
app to work.

The back facing camera needs to be place approximately in the center of the
written materials. this is where the horizontal and verticle lines will meet.
When first emerging myself into the OCR scanning tasks on the phone, I printed
out a short paragraph from the computer and then folded it both lengthwise and
in half. this gave me creases for where I should place the phone and I began to
practice this way. Now, I don't think about it and just estimate the center
point. I also place the bottom edge of the written material perpendicular to
the edge of the table to keep it straight.

Text Detector scanning is done in landscape mode. I place the back facing
camera in the center point flat on the paper and tap the "Take Picture" button.
I use 2 hands on the phone's case and lift straight up until I hear VO announce
"Detecting best picture." It will scan the image, indicate if there's any text
or not. If text is detected, then you will hear a percentage of the OCR
recognition. The scan button is located in the lower left portion of the phone
in landscape mode. I HTH.
