I have both an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5s. Both are running 7.1. I have no problem with either device. Come to think of it, I have 7.1 on my iPad Air too.
I had just read yesterday in US'A Today that Apple is going to come out with an even cheaper version of the 5C. More plastic I would guess. It was not announced when but you can figure on the fall just before the holiday shopping season.
