That is the default behavior, if you want to turn this off go to Settings, Notification Center, Messages. Almost at the bottom look for "Repeat Alerts". This will say "Once" which means your alerts repeat once after 2 minutes. Double tap on it and set it to "Never" if you want to just get a single alert. Your choices are Never, Once, Twice 3 Times, 5 Times and 10 Times and it will always repeat in 2 minute intervals.
