Hi Andrew, I choose video mode in talking goggles. This is right on the home screen after you open the app.
After that, I make sure the flash is enabled. This is on the home screen as well. After this, I move the phone over whatever I am trying to identify. You have to wait a few seconds, but soon it will actually say what you are looking at, not using the IOS voice. I hope this helps. I don't think I left out a step, but you might have to play with the app a bit.
