I am not finding any of the issues you are describing. Along the bottom of the screen when in the list of iBooks there are four buttons, Bookshelf, Title, Author, and Categories. They all do what you think they would do. If a book has a table of contents, it works just fine for me. Searching is working as well. Are you using the latest version of the app? And no, no other app can read iBooks. Richard
