There is no size limit with iTunes Match, just a limit to the number of songs
not purchased from the iTunes Store that you're allowed, and that's 25000
songs. If iTunes Match finds a match for your music, it will make it available
to you without uploading the song. This is a big plus, because if you've ripped
your music in lower bit rate and/or inferior file formats to the 256 KBPS AAC
format Apple uses, then you end up with much better quality versions of your
music. In fact, I have even ended up with really good quality copies of songs
that I have originally ripped from vinyl, so I've downloaded those copies from
Match to replace my vinyl rips. Really sweet!
However, the 25000 song limit applies to all music not purchased from the
iTunes Store. So even if it finds a match and doesn't upload it, and that music
was not purchased from iTunes, it counts against your 25000 song limit, which
is a very small limit really.
I like having music in the Cloud for Apple TV though, so I got around the issue
by setting up a smaller library for iTunes Match, featuring music we listen to
a lot.
