Don, On the text message you want to forward, do a 1-finger swipe down, Voiceover will say "More", now do a double tap anywhere on the screen. This will select the message and, if you have a thread with multiple messages, you can double tap on other messages to select them as well. Now at the bottom of the screen you find the Delete and Forward buttons.
