I tried to use the new skype on my iPad and when I connected a call the volume
immediately bottomed out and I could not get it back to the volume level I had
before the update. Now I'll have to see if I can move back to the earlier
version.

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?

  Hi Sieghard,

I can't seem to find the speaker button so I don't have to hold the phone up
to my ear. Do you know where I can find that?

Subject: All new Skype update with major changes to the user interface

  Hello List,

Just thought I post a quick message about this. Skype was updated for me this
morning. First of all, Voiceover accessibility is, as far as I can tell, fully
there. However, the interface is completely different and will need a bit of
getting used to. Having said this, I really like what I have seen so far.

For one thing, the app loads super fast and this is something that is
mentioned in the What's new.

The first time I opened it after the update a video started playing. I let it
play and after maybe 15 or 20 seconds it stopped and I had a "Skip Video"
button.

Once I was in the app I noticed that now there are 2 buttons, one on the top
left called the "Skype Home" button and another at the top right called "My
Info, Online" button. If I double tap this I have a Back button at the top left
and then a nice summary of everything related to my status and account:

  First my name

Then a Change Profile Picture button

Next a place where I can enter a mood message.

Then the status button where I can change it from Online to Away, Offline and
so on.

Next is my Skype credit and if I double tap it I can quickly add $4.99 via an
in-app purchase.

Lastly is a My Account button, a Settings button and a More button.

In Settings I can turn on or off push notifications, in-app notifications and
in-app sounds.

Under More I have buttons for Help, About, Send Feedback and Sign Out.

Underneath the top where I find these 2 buttons I have now 3 items in one row:

  Recents, Favorites and People

The order of these 3 items changes, Voiceover doesn't say they are buttons or
links, but you can double tap on them and whichever one you double tap on moves
to the very left.

Favorites is new and for me it's empty since I haven't added any Favorites
yet.

People gives me all my contacts. If you double tap it you have a search field
to look for somebody and there is also a table index on the right. Between the
search field and the top of your list starting with "A" is a button which
Voiceover announces as "All". This means all your contacts are displayed and if
you double tap on this button you can choose between All and Online. Here I
have to do some more exploring because in the old Skype you could tap on lists
and select from All contacts, Skype Contacts, Online Contacts, Saved Phone
Numbers and also bring up your iPhone Contacts. I currently don't see this any
more and while "All" contains all you have in Skype including regular Skype
contacts whether they are online or offline as well as saved phone numbers, one
apparently can't filter by this any more.

At the bottom of the screen are a few buttons and they may change depending
on where you are. If you are in your People view you have buttons for
"DialPad", Message" and "More".

One thing which is fantastic is that the DialPad now works in touch typing
mode even when you are on a call and bring up the DialPad to enter numbers
during your call.

In the past only the main DialPad where you would dial your phone number
would work in touch typing mode and you still had to double or split tap the
DialPad for entering numbers during a call.

I think this makes Skype the only Voip app where touch typing on the DialPad
is fully supported.

OK, that's about it for now. The main thing is that Voiceover accessibility
is still as good as ever and it's safe to update.

  Regards,

  Sieghard
