I really blind square, it's a great app. The seeing eye GPS app is also decent, though I wish it provided more information automatically without having to touch the screen. If you are considering one or the other, I would go with blind square.

I realize that this particular topic is so vast, due to the amount of
available GPS apps, that we could probably have a separate mailing list
just to discuss this one capability.  I also realize that my questions
could generate a variety of opinions but that's OK.
So, here's the thing.  I'm relatively new to the iPhone and started out
in the world of GPS with the built-in Maps app, which I can use and, for
the most part, which I like.  I've also downloaded several free GPS apps
that I'm in the process of evaluating and learning. One of the things
that I really loved about Maps was that I could have it constantly speak
my current location, which I found beneficial while on the train going
to work.  Given the capabilities of many of these free apps, are the
specialized, blindness-specific GPS apps worth paying for?  What
benefits can we get with Seeing eye or Blindsquare?
