If you're using the touchscreen, and not a Bluetooth keyboard, double-tap on the status bar to bring up the address bar and buttons at the bottom of the screen. Double-tap on the address bar or pages button as necessary. If you double-tap on the address bar, the keyboard will become available; you will also see a clear text button. Double-tapping this will get rid of any text in the address field and let you start typing the new address. If you double-tap on the pages button at the bottom of the screen, there will be a pop-up that shows all the pages you have open in Safari. At the bottom of this window, you will see a Mew Page button, right above the home button. Double-tap this button, and you will be taken into a new page, with focus in the address bar, where you can start typing your new address immediately.
I hope this helps.
