That left-hand button, the triangle on the left sound pad, is your friend. It will answer an incoming call, hang up an in-progress call, and play or pause media when no calls are active. Press it twice quickly to fast forward, thrice to rewind (though I can't get that latter one to work much). After twenty seconds of silence, pressing and holding the button will bring up Siri, but I can't get that to work well either.
