The easiest solution here is to turn on automatic downloads for music in iTunes on the computer. To do this, go to "Edit" and "Preferences" or use the "Control+Comma shortcut key. Once in Preferences, press Control+Tab 3 times to go from General preferences to Store preferences. Now tab once and you find "Always check for available downloads", this is a checkbox and I can't remember if it's on by default, but if it is not checked, I would check it. Tab 3 more times and Jaws will say "Music" and most likely this will be unchecked. Use the space bar to check it as this is the automatic download setting. If you use the Jaws cursor, you can review the screen and you'll find the following explanation: iTunes can automatically download new purchases made on other devices using "[email protected]". To change to a different Apple ID, sign in to the iTunes Store. I put in the [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> as a generic email address, it will display whatever your Apple Id is that you are signed in with. You then have checkboxes for music, apps and books. If you check music and apps this means that if you buy any music or an app on your iPhone, then the song/album or app is automatically downloaded to your iTunes library the next time you open iTunes on your computer. There is a similar setting on the iPhone in Settings, iTunes and App Store. If you enable this on your iPhone then any music or apps you download from iTunes on your computer are also automatically downloaded to your iPhone. In the case of music you already purchased I am not sure if it will download, but if you go to the "Store" menu and then find "Check for available downloads" it should find any purchases you made and download them. I am not sure why you say transferring these purchases from your phone to iTunes won't work for you because this would also be an alternative. If you purchased a song or album and it's already downloaded to your phone, then if you hook up your phone to iTunes and go to the Device option in the File menu, you will find "transfer Purchases" and this will transfer anything you bought on your phone to iTunes. Even if you already have several thousand MP3's in your music library in iTunes, this should just add your purchases from your phone. I agree that managing your music on the phone via iTunes is a good way to go ad it is how I do this, but after you transfer the purchases you could still go ahead and delete all music off your phone and then use iTunes to sync it back. In rebuilding the library, I have imported a couple thousand MP3 files. That is most of my music collection but there are a few that I have purchased through iTunes on the phone that I want to download back into the library. In iTunes on the computer, I can sign in with my Apple ID and look at my purchased music. However, I can't figure out how to download it back into the library.
