There are those who would disagree with you, but I'm glad I could help.
First, the pass-through gesture (the double-tap and hold) provides a way to do
a gesture that bypasses VoiceOver. A sighted iDevice user can simply hold a
finger on the screen and have the options pop up, like copy, define, etc. Apple
provides the pass-through gesture so VoiceOver users can access the same
options.
Another way to think about it is it is a way to select a particular thing. If
you were on a Windows computer, you could right-click a link and copy the URL
and paste it whereever you want. So this allows you to copy the URL of the
download link.
Since Winston, the Voice Dream creator, has allowed a way to access a web
address to add a file into Voice Dream, then you simply paste in that URL and
you have your book.
It is much the same for downloading the MP3 piles from Blind Mice Movie Vault,
or just pulling a web page you want into Voice Dream.
It amounts to nothing more than combining two features to get a task
accomplished.
I hope all that made some sense.
Happy reading,
Richard
