Absurd considering that the StandScan for example was developed for the mainstream smartphone user market and only later was it realized how useful it could be for visually impaired people to obtain a consistent scanning environment. One of those quirks that makes the NFB the NFB. Perhaps some industrious soul could come out with a mobile scanning aid and throw in a $5.00 iTunes gift card to make Prismo or Text Grabber free as a perk. Even someone like Kevin Chow who came out with his own portable device could do this and still come in way under what the NFB will be charging for the app alone.
