When you create a contact, you can designate home, mobile, or iPhone.
messaging would work if you have that contact designated as iPhone.

I am a late comer to iMessaging. I've been reading about this service on
the web but I'm still unclear how to make the best use of it with Voiceover.
Does anyone know of a podcast that would explain this function? For
instance, does the messages.app on the mac detect automatically who in your
contacts has an iphone, or does it have to be chosen manually? Can one send
messages to an ordinary smart phone like Nokia using messages.app?
