The only way I've found to navigate these multi-line text fields consistently is by bringing the focus to the one line at a time with my finger, by dragging it around the screen, entering the appropriate text in the text field with current focus, then dragging my finger again to find the next text field(s).
Occasionally, I've had luck hitting Return after completing text entry in one field, but often this doesn't seem to work for me, and I end up adding my password characters to my username characters - and that, of course, doesn't work very well! I'd love to learn the most effective way of doing this, too.
