Hi, I have used both cases and prefer the Griffin Survivor case. The case itself is just slightly thicker than the Otterbox Defender case, but because the Survivor case features a removable belt clip instead of a holster, it's actually lighter and less bulky to carry.
Like the Defender case, the Survivor completely covers the phone and features a screen protector and a rubber shock absorber on the back and sides. It also has flaps to cover all ports, including the camera. This makes it more water resistant than the Defender, so the phone is better protected if you're caught in the rain, for example. There are two drawbacks to the Survivor, in my view. Firstly, it actually protects more of the screen, like the old iPhone 4 Defender cases did. There is a plastic piece that covers the top part of the phone. It separates the earpiece, face camera, and proximity sensor from the rest of the screen, and it includes a small opening for the earpiece, face camera, and sensors. The status bar falls just below the bottom of this plastic piece, so it is a little more difficult to touch the status bar, but doable, especially with practice. There is a similar plastic piece that covers the bottom of the screen to just below the top of the Home button. I have not found it difficult to tap the bottom edge of the screen, however. The Home button is also covered by a rubber piece, like the old Defender case had. Because of the way the Survivor case covers the phone, the second drawback is that you can't use a 30-pin to Lightning adapter without taking the phone out of the case. You can, however, use the standard charging cable while the phone is in the case. The Survivor case for the iPhone is rectangular. The phone slides into the bottom half of the case and under the rubberized Home button cover. You then lay the top half over the phone. There are six plastic tabs, two on the left and right edges of the case, and one on the top and bottom edges of the case. You press on these tabs to snap the edges of both halves of the case together. You'll notice that the case is not a perfect rectangle. Each tab is slightly indented, in order to make it easier to open the case by unsnapping the tabs. The opening for the iPhone's charging port is just below the bottom tab. So, since that area is recessed, you are pretty much limited to stock, or comparable, charging cables while using the case. The belt clip for the case is a rectangle with a hook on each end. It clips over the indented areas for the top and bottom clips, so you must remove the belt clip in order to charge the phone. The clip swivels and can be locked out to form a stand. It can also be locked closed to form a loop over a belt. Also, because the belt clip is not a full holster, you can place the phone in it rightside up or upside down, screen facing in or out, without reorienting the belt clip. I hope this helps you make your decision. Cheryl Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Sent from my iPhone > On Aug 1, 2014, at 7:16 AM, Mária Orovčíková <[email protected]> > wrote: > > Hello list, > please does anyone use Griffin Survivor case to protect their i-devices? > I am just wondering if someone could describe the case in details. > I have been using otterbox defender case for a while and I really like it. > Is Griffin Survivor case similar to Otterbox deffender in some way? > For example, does Griffin Survivor case have that plastic part protecting the > screen like Otterbox defender case does or ?is the screen unprotected? > What about the charging and headset connectors and all buttons?
