Or if you just want to stop reading for a while, but will want to return to the 
specific book later, hit the home button.  When you open Kindle again, it will 
remember the book you were reading, and, more or less, where you were.  Just 
run your finger along the left side of the screen to find your exact place, do 
the two-finger swipe down, and you are reading again.  If it didn't remember 
the specific screen you were on, a three-finger swipe left and right will move 
you forward and backward by screen.

first double-tapping in the text of the book, double-tapping the menu button 
that appears, then double-tapping the library button. From there, you can go to
