Hi Andrew, All iOS apps have to be always purchased from the app store, it's the only game in town unless you jailbreak your device.
Most apps are relatively small and even the KNFB Reader app will not be large enough where you would have to delete stuff off your phone if you still have 4 Gb free or, for that matter, even if you had only 1 Gb free. The Fitbit app is only 14.2 Mb, you could fit 281 apps of that size into your 4 Gb of free space. My guess is KNFB Reader will be well below 100 Mb. Just as a comparison, the Prizmo scanning/OCR app is 30.1 Mb and Text Grabber+Translator is 39.5 Mb. Hi Kawal, The batteries are replaceable. It will take at least a year for them to die. There is no on off switch. When you step on, it turns, and off when you step off. There is no need for a switch.
