Hello to all Canadian list members,

Spotify is now available in Canada. I had signed up a couple of years ago
to be notified when this was the case and I received the email with an
invite to try it out about 2 weeks ago. I am not sure if you can already
sign up normally on the website or if it is still by invitation only, but
even if this is so I assume it will be available for all to sign up shortly.

Initially I wasn't using it much because Spotify did not yet show up as a
service in my Sonos app since of course it used to be not available. I
called Sonos and when I just checked this morning it was now added and I was
able to sign up for a Spotify Premium account and authorize it on my Sonos
system. You get to try the premium subscription for free for 30 days, after
that it is $9.95 CAD a month which is the same as the price in the US. The
sound quality via Sonos is very good, I believe it is a 320 Kbps stream.

As for music availability it is hit and miss. I only just scratched the
surface, but searching for example for Dire Straits only seemed to give me 1
complete album. Of course the service here is new so they may not have all
deals in place yet with respect to copyright and the fact is that while they
may not have everything, I dobt you'll ever find yourself not finding
something to listen to. All in all I would probably say that Spotify is
probably the best subscription based service available in Canada. Rdio is
not bad, either, but while it's pretty good via Sonos, I found their website
was quite messy at least about a year ago when I tried it. I also think at
the time their premium service was $14.95 Canadian and that is entirely too
much, $10 is already the most I'd want to pay.

Regards,

Sieghard
