I'm not sure how you're deleting your email messages currently.
One thing you can do is when you're in the in box, flick left and right
to jump from message to message. When you find a message you want to
delete, flick up, you should hear "trash", and then double tap to delete
it. This will also work for whole threads, so you can delete multiple
messages that way. This is what I do when I'm cleaning out my in box.
You can also double tap the edit button at the top of your in box. Now
you can double tap a message to select it. Once you've selected the
messages you want to delete, you can double tap the trash button at the
bottom of the screen. I tend to find the method above is a bit more
efficient, but this second method is especially good if you want to move
multiple messages to another folder.
I typically just read each message on my iPhone and delete it before I
go on to the next one. I do most of my bulk mail processing on my PC.
The above two methods might help though if you weren't aware of them.
