Hi John, The Popscope definitely does not sound like an accessory which will allow you to position a phone 8 inches above a page horizontally. It is meant to be used in situations where you want to raise your phone up to take pictures or video and it also has a tripod so you can take selfis which, in iOS 8 will be even easier as it has a timer/delay for the camera. Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast apparently has a proto type of this thing and mentioned it on his last episode where he used it during some sports event where his son was involved and he said he was able to take some good video over top of the heads of other people in front of him.
