I believe you can take a VZW Apple iPhone to a GSM Network, but as I understand it, you will not be able to utilize its LTE Network ONLY its GSM Network. Only on VZW will you be able to use both CDMA & LTE, this is because VZW has to have a GSM option for its VZW customers, who travel outside the U.S.

If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me because I'm not totally sure I am correct as it pertains to this query.

Hi,

I have not seen any model numbers listed with radio frequencies yet, but if I use the current iPhone 5s as a starting point, there may be two physically different phones, one for Sprint, and one for ATT, Verizon, and T-Mobile. It very well may be the case that the new radio set supports all carriers in a single hardware handset.

That said, although the radio frequencies may work, Verizon's CDMA database will not support non Verizon iPhones. Thus, you cannot take an ATT iPhone and move it to Verizon. However, you can take a Verizon iPhone and move it to GSM carriers like ATT and T-Mobile.

So, the Verizon iPhone can be moved to three out of the four major carriers, and would be the best choice.

What I've said is valid on the 5s, but wait until the fine print is out on the 6 before making any decisions.
Cheers.

Hi,

I'm coming off contract with Verizon and will continue with them for a while, but hope to preserve my options of switching to a GSM carrier in the future.

If I get an unlocked 6 or 6+,will I have to worry about whether the phone is CDMA or GSM?

This issue has always confused me.

Thanks in advance. Keith
