Actually, you mention the one thing I did not do. Double tap, hold, and then
slide. I didn't add the slide after double tap and hold. I did each
individually, but not the combination. Should have thought of that. I'll try
it.

The Expedia app is reported to be quite accessible. I just attempted to use
it and moved through all the screens to select flights and add credit card
information. Although some screens were very sluggish on my iPhone 4s,
ultimately I managed to get to the final screen where I was stopped cold.

The final control is a slide with instructions to "Slide to Complete
Purchase." Sliding doesn't work. Double tapping doesn't work. Tapping and
holding doesn't work.

Does anyone have ideas to make this app work?
