On the Apple remote, hold the button to the left of the play button down for a few seconds. It will land you on three choices. The top choice is back to main menu, the second choice is turn off voice over, and the third is turn on close captioning. When you want to turn it back on, do the same, but I think the order of choices changes. I think, sometimes turn on voice over is the top choice.
