I bought mine directly from Apple. With buying from Apple, you get a one
year warranty.

It depends on who you purchase the iPad from. Some suppliers will
replace the battery as part of the refurbishment process whilst others
will leave the original one in but will hopefully provide some
indication as to how long it will last for. Unless your supplier
specificly tells you that a new battery has been installed, you should
assume the battery will be used & will have less life accordingly,
although it is not possible for me to gage how much less.
