If it is an iPod Touch Fifth Gen you can upgrade it, if it is older than that
you can't. 2.5 Gb is probably not enough space.

You could do an iCloud backup or connect it to the computer and do a backup in
iTunes.

I highly recommend upgrading via iTunes, it is a much better experience and you
get a lot more feedback during the upgrade.

Also, don't forget that the chances the upgrade will go smoothly is a lot
bigger if you first bring up the app switcher and force quit all apps. Then
Sync with iTunes and backup, then I go one step further and I go to Settings,
General, Reset, Reset All Network Settings. This will also reboot the phone and
you will have to reconnect to your WiFi afterwards so make sure you know the
password.

Sieghard

Subject: ipod touch questions

hi

my sighted son got a 16gig ipod touch. would it be worth upgrading to
ios8? he likes to play lots of games and currently has 2.5gigs of space
free. since I am a bit more familiar with android than the ipod touch
5th generation how would I go about backing up his apps photos and
videos to upgrade his device if you guys recommend it? last time I owned
an ipod was 2 or so years ago. I also have an apple tv and like it lots.
I like using both apple and android devices for different things, its fun.
