Hello all: As we have had a great deal of questions posed to us, as well as a thread started here, we wanted to pop in and update on the status of tactile screen protectors for the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. The assumption that we're not taking the lead on developing them to meet the need is an inaccurate one; but, this is also likely a lack of understanding how our products are produced. We begin that process when the betas of the various operating systems are released. We are always looking ahead to understand and prepare for how the changes that apple makes to iOS and overall screen layouts are going to impact our business and our products. If there is not a change in the size of the phone screen, then obviously we can easily make those changes using existing materials, templates, and doing minor adjustments as they pertain to overall screen measurements. As all of you likely know by now, Apple released two, (2) different phones this time around. They are completely different from the prior models, specifically the 5/5S/5c. This means, that, we needed to purchase both phones. No; contrary to what some sadly think, we do not have an in with Apple. and, we do not feel that it would make us look like a professional and/or well conducted business, if we were to go to them and demand that we be given special treatment, and have our devices delivery expedited to us because we are producing products for the blind community who needs them. This was suggested to us; and I only wish I were kidding. so, we did what we do every year: stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to pre-order. This has never failed us. Unfortunately, as lots of you probably also heard, apple did not anticipate the popularity of its products and have sufficient stock on hand. This, resulted in some models being backordered. Ours were in that group. This, despite getting our order placed within ten minutes after the online appstore was open and accepting orders. We cannot begin production without two things: our iPhones, and the arival of our screen protector materials from China. BTW: if any of you has an in with either apple, or one of the major US shipping carriers to speed this process along, we are all ears. Talk to us privately off list. Heck, if you're for real, you might even get something free out of the deal. Once, we do receive these things, which we are expecting by the end of the week, we can, and will, send all measurements, screen shots, and materials off to our guy and begin production. So, to answer the question of wil there be screen protectors? Yes, absolutely! When will they be available? We are going to work as quickly as we can to get them done and up on the site once everything has been sent off and we have our devices and materials. and no, that's seriously not just business lip service. Again, we cannot do anything without the devices and materials in hand. We will, of course, post announcements to this list, as well as all of the usual suspects e.g. buy/sell/trade lists, twitter, Facebook, and in an email that will be sent out to everyone who has subscribed to our new product announcement list. Along those lines: if you have not done so, or are not sure if you have, please feel free to add your email to the list. You may do this by going to our homepage, and filling out the form there. You can't miss it. If you've previously subscribed, no worries. We weed out duplicates, so you won't get multiple emails; and as others who are on this list can likely tell you, we don't spam. We really, only email you when we have something to say. We too, loathe spam and pointless emails in our personal inboxes. Finally, a quick note about some mentions here, and inquiries that we have had regarding producing a screen protector to be used specifically with MBraille, or now the native braille support in the iOS. We have been accused of not listening, and not being interested. Seriously? We are listening, and we do hear you; loud and clear. Unfortunately, we've had three requests for this; so the masses are not all voicing their interest to us or to our resellers at conventions either, I might add. That all gets back to us, and we always are looking at different layout options. Some of you might have seen or used the phone keypad layout that we have. That product came from us getting over 50 requests for this; and because there was then no question that it would sell, we ran with it and made it happen. We are a business, and like any business, when we look at bringing something new into the market, we have to be sure that initial sales will at least enable us to recover any costs asociated with making the first batch of product. That's pretty much true for any business; ones I know anyway... We tell everyone who comes to us with a want for either a screen protector for their android phone or tablet, or another layout they'd like to see for their iOS device, to let us know. Our contact info is on our web site and checked by real humans. Alternatively, run into one of our resellers like A T Guys at conventions or conferences? If they are met with enough inquiries about something, they will bring it to our attention as well. That's again, how the phone layout was born. We take all of those into consideration when determining whether or not there's enough interest and whether or not they would sell. So, the MBraille screen protector layout never came to fruition because two or three requests won't get the job done. This doesn't mean we're not interested; it means that if you guys are, you're not telling us. And, obviously, if we try and cannot produce a product that's up to our standards, we won't sell it. We refuse to have our names associated with anything that doesn't look spot on, of good quality, or professional. So, if there really is a need/want for a screen protector that is geared specifically towards those who want to use the Braille now in iOS, or MBraille, contact us and request it. Make your voice heard and that need known. 40 or 50 can get the ball rolling. I hope that this clears up any confusion and/or misconceptions that may exist here; and answers any questions about when or if screen protectors will be available for the new iPhones; and inquiries about creating them for use with other products or keyboard layouts.
