The iPhone 6 and 6+ are great devices, and I'm sure they blow the
Samsung S5 away in some benchmarks, but I'm a bit surprised they blow
the S5 away in all benchmarks. There are quite a few benchmarks out
there to test all sorts of things. One of the problems with benchmarks
too is that they tend to focus on a very specific aspect of the phone
and don't always indicate how a device performs in every day use.
Looking at the specs, I'd assume the iPhone 6 would more than hold it's
own in benchmarks that aren't memory intensive or spawn off a lot of
threads. Furthermore, I think this is more indicative of how people use
their phones and mobile devices. I'd guess the S5 would do better in
benchmarks requiring more memory and that are more heavily threaded.
Like I said, I'd be surprised if the iPhone 6 blew away the Samsung S5
in every benchmark. I'm sure Samsung has it's pet benchmarks that it
uses when testing the S5 and does it's share of tuning to ensure it
performs well in those benchmarks. As a software engineer who's worked
with performance tests to ensure a platform gets good marks, my
experience is that performance benchmarks are more about marketing than
they are about real world customer satisfaction.
I'm sure I'll be labeled as an Android supporter or a Apple basher, but
my only real point here is to put benchmarks into perspective and
caution people against statements that say one platform blows another
away in all benchmarks. When you see terms like "all", "every", "never"
and so on, chances are you're not getting the whole story.
I hope Sieghard, one of the people I respect most on this list, doesn't
take offense to anything I said above!

Hello,
Just thought the below article may cheer up all you new iPhone 6 and 6
Plus users and give you some hope that once the main iOS 8 bugs have
been fixed, you will truly have the best smartphone in the world as
Apple says. This DXOMark Mobile test is considered to be the best camera
test there is and it shows how Apple's decision to stay with an 8 MP
sensor is not a bad thing. It also shows how all the sniggering by
Android fanboys who thought their S5 camera with its 16 Megapixels was
so much better was a bit premature. Add to this that the iPhone 6 and 6
Plus with its dual core processor and 1 Gb of RAM blows the S5 with a
quad core and 2 Gb of RAM out of the water in all benchmark tests and
you can rest assured that you do indeed have an awesome phone.
Oh, yes, the above may come across as condescending but I don't really
mean that. I do prefer Apple/iOS over Android, but nonetheless the S5
and other top of the line Android phones are also very nice phones and I
realize that Android accessibility has come a long way. I also hope that
trend continues and that Windows Phone becomes a lot more accessible as
well so that we truly have choices. Anyhow, here is the link to that
article:
