Yes, it probably will make some difference, but then again as Apple
refines iOS 8 it may run more efficiently on the slightly older
devices and it's not like your iPad is that old. And if you do buy an
iPad Mini 3 and maybe you wait a couple more months then 9 or 10
months later iOS 9 comes out and the next generation ipad Mini will be
announced which most definitely then will get the A8 or even the
nnewest A9 chip and you are once again in the same boat where maybe
iOS 9 will run better on the newest devices and so on. My Mom is
running iOS 8 on an iPad 2, that is the original large iPad second
generation which I believe has an A5 processor and while she is not
using voiceover, iOS itself works just fine. Your ipad |Mini as far as
I remember would have an A6 or A6x processor and iOS 8 should run fine
on that. Apple may want you to buy a new device every year or every 2
years, but market studies show that especially with the ipad a lot of
people are using them for much longer.

The thing is, I haven't installed ios 8 on my first generation ipad
mini.
I'm wondering if it will make it run slower than it currently is with
ios 7?
I want to wait for the bugs to be worked out of ios 8. When that
happens,
then I can see how much slower it is. I would assume that the ipad
mini 2
will make a difference running ios 8.

Hi Russ,
If I were you I'd wait a year unless there is something wrong with your
current iPad Mini. Yes, the iPad Mini Retina gives you a retina screen
(probably not important for you) and it will give you the A7 processor
which
will give you a bit better speed. However, unless you really feel you
need
Alex which in my opinion sounds less clear than the default high quality
female voice, why not get a third year out of your device and then
upgrade
next year when there will be some real changes. Just my thought on this.

I'll probably get the ipad mini 2 instead of the ipad mini 3. As of
now, I
have the first generation ipad mini. In my case, updating to the ipad
mini
2 will be an upgrade of hardware.

Somebody else just posted stating that the processor in the mini has not
been updated. If that is true, my original statement stands. Why the
hell by
the new one? Take advantage of the price drop and get the old one.

They have also dropped the price points so for $499 you can get
the 16
GB WiFi, $599 you can get the 64 GB 'wiFi model and for $699, the 128
GB.

The new Mini will be available in gold and have the touch ID sensor.
Other then that, it's the same device.
You're better off grabbing last year's model if those two features
aren't important to you.
I guess the other thing that is a plus is that pricing seems to be
headed down. With the lack of a 32GB model, the 64 and 128 GB devices
are $100.00 cheaper pushing the older versions down too. By
offering the
16 GB iPads at the same introductory price, it's like Apple wants
you to
just buy the larger storage options instead.
I guess if you're into the enhanced photo and video aspects with
the new
Air 2, the new versions may be interesting, but all in all,
underwhelming.

Subject: Hmmm, iPad mini 3?
Hi all,
I just ran over to the Apple store website to compare the Mini 2 & 3.
If I am reading things correctly, the only change is the addition of
fingerprint security?
For a minut, I thought the Mini 3 had upgraded wi-fi signals, but I’m
not sure. They both say Wi‑Fi (802.11a/b/g/n); dual channel
(2.4GHz
and 5GHz) and MIMO. iPad2 says, Wi‑Fi (802.11a/b/g/n); dual
channel
(2.4GHz and 5GHz) and MIMO.
Lol, that’s the same, correct? The iPad3 spacificly mentions 2 wi-fi
antennas, where I cannot find those words for the 2nd Gen retina
model.
Anyway, what do you guys know about the differences in the 2 models?
Thanks,
Traci
