Yes, but not sure if naming groups is accessible as of 8.1. It wasn't in
8.0. Anyway just add your contacts to the group, type your message and
go. You can manage the group with the details button.

Ok two things.
1. Sending audio messages work with iMessages only, your carrier has nothing to
do with this unless you're sending them over the 3G/LTE data networks. To use
double tap and hold on the record audio button, speak your message, lift your
finger then double tap send.
2. The edit button is still there. There are some changes for the better but
suffice to say the edit button is still there. What's changed is instead of a
delete switch button next to each thread, you simply double tap on a thread to
select, then double tap delete to delete one or more threads at once.

Just noticed as well on IOS that the message screen is quite different, there
is no edit button any more, you have to swipe down with your finger to bring up
the delete option and then double tap it. This is much better as you don't
have to double tap edit then delete and confirm with delete on the right.
