Ok, thanks everybody.

For some weird reason, the first two times she accepted the invitation and
went to the Confirm button, it didn't take it in iCloud. But, the thirde
time it did and she was able to see my purchases and vice versa.

Hi Steve, the need to purchase before you could see what others in your
group have purchased was a bug. It's possible Apple fixed it in 8.1.
When you enable Family Sharing, and go into Purchases in the App Store, you
can see your own purchases, plus elect to see the purchases of each member
of the group.
Bottom line is you should be good to go for buying the Reader. Family
Sharing will let you share all purchases even before the group was
established, except those where the developer has opted out of Family
Sharing. KNFB Reader is definitely shareable.
