I am having the handwriting issue on an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1. It is very annoying to say the least, but I didn't think of writing something in lower case and then erasing and switching to upper. I usually prefer uppercase anyway since I'm more confident when I need to draw the larger letters. Anyway, email Apple Accessibility and remind them. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
