Hi Richard and Katey,

As I just described, you can set Samantha as the default language and Alex as
an additional language when you add US English, but you can also do it the
other way around, either way works.

On my iPhone 5s I have Alex as the default and Samantha in the language rotor.
Is there a way to switch this or does it really matter?

Thanks,

Katey

Mary,

I was just experimenting with those settings and ended up with them both as
Alex.

I then figured out how to get back to having Samantha as one of those, but
whether this is going to make sense is yet to be determined.

Go into the speech settings and go to the rotor languages and double tap on the
more info button on English US.

Then, double tap the enhanced quality using 156 MB.

Then, go back to the default dialect settings and double tap on Alex using 869
MB.

Then see if that changes what is on the rotor.

If not, set the default to 156 and hopefully that will get you Samantha, and
set the other as Alex.

It was some combination of those steps that got me back to having both.

HTH,

Richard

Hi Richard,

No, not exactly. I have US English in the rotor. I also have default language
as US English. But both of those are set to Alex. What I would like to have is
one said to Alex and the other one set to the high-quality Samantha voice. I
think I had that at one point, and then somehow screwed it up. I hope that
makes sense.

I have just installed iOS 8.1 on my iPad mini retina. I have the Alex voice
installed. Somehow, I managed to set Alex as my default language and also my US
English language. I would like to retain Samantha as one of those two
positions. Shirley, I am overlooking something stupid and easy. But I can't
find it. How can I have both Samantha and Alex available as US English choices,
one being the default and the otherbeing the US English choice?
