Hi Carol, The WEMO app from Belkin controls electrical devices and appliances which are plugged into a WEMO switch or you can control lights if you replace the regular light switch with a Belkin WEMO light switch. There are now also some appliances like a coffee maker, air purifier and so on which apparently can be controlled directly with the app. Here is the app store link:
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/wemo/id511376996?mt=8 I am very interested in this type of stuff and home automation and appliance control in general, but with Apple's new home kit in iOS 8 I am not jumping on anything right now because I think given what they announced about the partnerships with several companies during the June keynote, I am sure we will see a lot more product in this area which might work even better than what is already out there. The WEMO light switch and plug-in type switch is available on Amazon.ca for about $50 Canadian or on Amazon.com for about $42 US. For lights I think I prefer the idea of the Philipps Hue light bulbs where you control the light bulb itself instead of the switch. In addition to turning it on and off you can control the brightness of the light and even change the colour.
