thanks so much for this info. I did not realize if I changed the subject that
it was still hijacking and I apologize for the error. I will try once again to
post directly to the list and if it does not work I will indeed contact the
owner. I am fairly new to this list so don’t want to get off on the wrong foot
since I find it a very useful and informative list. It seems I never stop
learning new things with the I devices.
As I told Gene I did indeed accidently move the mute switch and it is the first
time this has happened to me and I have been using an IPhone for 4 years!

Subject: Two questions please

Hi Marie,

I started a new thread with the same subject as yours since if you replied to a
different message and changed the subject you are doing what on mailing lists
is called “thread hijacking” and which is considered to be very poor etikette.

There is a mute switch on your phone. It is located above the volume buttons
and you can flick it either towards the back of the phone or pull it forward
towards the side where the touch screen is. You most likely flicked that switch
to the Mute position which is towards the back of the phone. If you unlock your
phone before you try this, Voiceover will tell you “Muted” or “Unmuted”. There
is also a brief vibration if the switch is pushed into the mute position, if
you pull it forward to unmute the phone it will not vibrate.

You might be able to upgrade to 8.1 via iTunes and require less space than if
you try and upgrade on your iPhone directly. You would just have to try it, if
there is not enough space iTunes will tell you.

Coming back to your not being able to post to the list, are you sure you are
sending your messages from the email address you are subscribed with? If you do
and it doesn’t work, I would send a message directly to Raul, the moderator,
and ask if he knows why your messages don’t get posted.

Raul just posted a public warning today when somebody else hijacked a
thread/topic and change the subject to something completely unrelated.

People who read by conversation will suddenly come across a completely
different message with has nothing to do with the original topic. I put Raul’s
email below and you should definitely write to him since if you continue to
reply to other threads and change the subject he might put you on moderated
status. Here is the email address:

Subject: Two questions please

sorry about the vague subject line but the problem is too long to shorten
into the subject. Today my iPhone 5S will not ring but instead either just
vibrates or puts a notification on the lock screen to either decline or accept
the call? It worked fine yesterday and I can’t imagine what has caused this
behavior. I have gone into sounds and the ringtones all seem to play fine and
the setting is to vibrate and ring on an incoming call.

I have been working on setting up a group in the contacts but can’t imagine
that would have anything to do with the answering of a call. Could I have
inadvertently changed some setting? Oh and I am still running 7.12. I only have
a 16 GB phone and not enough space to install 8.1 without deleting some apps
that I don’t wish to delete. Can you install by connecting to ITunes without
uninstalling apps?

the other question is why I can’t seem to post an email direct to this list. I
can reply to another message and change the subject line and they appear to
post correctly but if I send a new message it is rejected.

Marie
