Steve and all, You were right. It was in fact hidden in a folder, on page 4 of my apps. I think I'd missed the tone as it moved because of background noise and wasn't expecting it to be taken into another folder at that stage. Anyway, you were quite right and I'm thankful that you've helped me to find it.
I now, at last, have all my apps better sorted, even those that don't want to move too readily at various points on the screen.
