I had mentioned before when I got my iPhone 6 plus on the AT&T Next plan, that I was going to pay off their installment plan right away, and then get the phone unlocked. But, grin, guess I must have bragged a bit too much, as that sure isn't happening.

I did indeed use the MyAT&T app to pay off the plan, even got the confirming email from them. But, due to the known focus issues with iOS 8.1, it took me forever to figure out how to pay the thing, thus I got billed for one installment first.

Then, even after the plan had been paid off, I kept getting billed for the installments, and the payment I made got applied to my regular phone bill as a credit.

When I called AT&T the first time, they said they would fix. But, when my next bill came out and still showed the money on the regular phone bill, another person told me that the Next plan was really hard to pay off early, either through the app, or calling into their service center. He said the best way he knew of to get it done, was to actually go into an AT&T store. Bottom line, even though the MyAT&T app has an area that lets you manage/pay off your Next installment plan, be aware that choosing that option may very well not work. The way I left it with the last representative was that plan A the installment plan would finally be paid off with this next bill cycle, or plan B I would call back and get a refund of the payment within 72 hours if the credit was still showing on my account and then go to an AT&T store to pay off the plan. Oh, yes, because I had that credit sitting on my regular phone bill, and I do have the combined billing for my home and cell, I couldn't make a payment myself, either online or with the app, because of having a $300 credit on the account. Thus, the customer service representative took my regular payment for this month; and, as he pointed out to me, he very nicely didn't charge me the normal $5 for making a payment through a representative.
