This is not true for everyone. I never had 7, but I can't agree that
1-2 seconds for an app to open is too long. I only started with 8.1 to
be fair, but my old 4s on 7 last year seemed very sluggish comparatively.

Pablo originally wondered if it was worth upgrading. For iPhone 5

an iPhone 5 just published in Got to Be Mobile has this to say:

with iOS 7.1.2 on board was fast. The iPhone 5 with iOS 8.0 and iOS
8.0.2 on board wasn’t as fast but the speed was tolerable. The iPhone
5 with iOS 8.1 or iOS 8.1.1 on board is not tolerable. While iOS 8.1.1
is stable from a bug standpoint, the software is just as sluggish as
the iOS 8.1 update.
Here’s what I mean by sluggish. I am constantly seeing delays with the
transitions and animations of the operating system, even after I
minimized them in the settings. It takes far too long for folders and
apps to open and I’ve noticed slowdown and random freezing when simply
moving about the home screen. I honestly don’t know what happened but
it’s really soured the experience." end quote

Hi Christopher,
I have found that the best way to insure focus is on the delete button in
mail is to touch it twice, and then do a single finger double tap.
This is much more annoying than it used to be, but not nearly as annoying as
having to dismiss the reply dialog when what you wanted was to delete the
message.

I still have the bug on my iPhone 4S where touching the delete button,

Hi Davy,
All gone is a touch optimistic. Apart from the two issues you
mentioned, some people still can’t clear notifications and the button
still says “Confirm Clear Section” where it should just say “Clear
Section” and then go to “Confirm clear section” once you double tap it.
Also, if you go to Settings, Sounds and go into where you change
your default ringtone or text tone, you are still kicked back to the
home screen if you start swiping right and once you get onto the
vibration picker. There is an easy work-around for this which is not
to swipe, but to first touch the middle of the screen and then swipe,
but it’s still a bug.
The search field in the App Store still shows whatever you searched
for even if you clear the field with “Clear all” and even though the
field visually is empty if you double tap Clear All twice Voiceover
will read your last entered text.
The keypad tones still disappear a while after my last reboot of the
phone, once again, not a big deal, but a minor bug.
These are some bugs I can think of right now, others have been
mentioned and Apple still has a way to go.

Sieghard

They are all gone except for the moving app near the doc bug and all
safari bugs are still there.

Subject says it, just use the usual precautions:
1. Sync and backup your phone either to iCloud or iTunes
2. Make sure all apps are updated
3. Remove all apps from the app switcher and at least reboot your
phone by turning it off and on again or do a Reset all Network
settings which will also reboot your phone.
Happy updating,
Sieghard
