Hi Don, I think I mentioned in my tutorial that a ringtone can't be longer than 40 seconds. You can't just rename a 3 or 4 minute song with the m4r extension, it will not work that way.
I just posted a complete tutorial on how to make ringtones from songs using iTunes 12 and this includes making sure you create a version of the song which contains only a 40 second or less segment. You might want to check it out. I t may sound complicate on the first read, but if you follow the instructions and after you do it a few times it's really quite easy. If I use Airplay I have to restart my phone before SIRI works again otherwise it does exactly what you describe, SIRI beeps to listen and immediately beeps like when it stops.
