I don't think Apple let's you use your account on more than 5 devices, but that could be five computers and some other limit on devices. I'm not sure. That would be worth a call to Apple, or someone else might have the details.
Yes it works for anything purchased. I think they also may put a time limit on how long before you can use that Apple ID on another device. I seem to recall some message to that effect. With iOS 8, I think they are trying to get folks to just use Family sharing. But, I'm only guessing here. So, don't quote me on any of this. I only know you for sure can log into another iDevice and down load purchases. I'm just a little foggy on the limits of all that.
