Where can I find the Barometer

Agent086b <[email protected]>: Dec 15 10:30AM +1100

Hello,
it is my understanding there is a Barometer in the iPhone 6 & 6+. Where can I
find it?
Thanks for any pointers.

 Bluetooth keyboard commands

"Mauricio Molina" <[email protected]>: Dec 14 02:41PM -0800

Hi Alex,

The below information was gleaned from a couple of different sources. I would
love to have been able to give those sources credit but suffice it to say, I am
grateful to have received this information. Make sure you read all the way to
the tables at the bottom.

Mauricio

Navigating using the Apple Bluetooth keyboard

Keys on the bottom row of the Apple Bluetooth keyboard going from left to right
are:

The first key on the left side on the Apple keyboard is the FN key. This key is
not used for the iPhone.

To the right of the FN key is Control key.

To the right of the Control key is the Option key.

To the right of Option is the Command key.

To the right of Command is the Space Bar.

To the right of the Space Bar is another Command key.

To the right of the Command key is the Option key.

To the right of the Option key are the Arrow keys.

The alphabet and the numbers are laid out the same as on a PC keyboard.

When you want to move around the screen using the Bluetooth keyboard, you can
either hold down the Control and Option keys and use the Left and Right Arrow
keys or turn on Quick Nav and use the Left and Right Arrow keys by themselves.
Unless you are editing something, it is recommended that Quick Nav be turned
on. To turn on Quick Nav, hit the Left and Right Arrow keys at the same time.
VoiceOver should say “Quick Nav on.” Unless specifically specified, these
instructions will be for navigating the iPhone with Quick Nav turned on.

To move across the screen, use the Left or Right Arrow keys to move around the
screen.

To double-tap on something, hit the Up and Down Arrow keys at the same time.

If you are on the Home screen, you can Hold down the Option key and tap Left or
Right Arrow keys to move through the different pages of apps. You can Hold down
the Option key and tap the Up and Down Arrow keys to scroll up or down a page.

If you are reading a document such as a note or a web page, you will want to be
able to move around different parts of the document. You can do this using the
rotor. To do this, first tap the Left and Up Arrow keys at the same time until
you hear how much you want to navigate by. Then you use the Up or Down Arrow
keys to move by that amount. For example, if you are reading a web page, you
might want to move around the page by heading. For an example, we will open
Apple’s web site. Do the following if you have not made any changes to Safari:

1. Double-tap on Safari. Safari is the app for browsing the web on the iPhone.
If you have not used Safari before, Apple’s web site will open.

2. Keep hitting both the Left Arrow and Up Arrow at the same time until you
hear “headings.”

3. Hit the Up and Down Arrow keys to move through the different headings on the
page.

4. Hit Left or Right Arrow to read the information under the heading.

You can edit information with the Apple Bluetooth keyboard. To do this, first
turn off Quick Nav by hitting the Left and Right Arrow keys at the same time
until VoiceOver says “Quick Nav off.” Then you would hold down the Control and
Option keys and tap the Left or Right Arrow keys to navigate around the screen.
When you find something you want to open or edit, you hold down the Control and
Option keys and hit the Space Bar. Then you would type in the information. If
there is more than one edit box, you could hit Tab or Shift+Tab to move through
the different edit boxes. For an example, we will add a contact with the Apple
keyboard. Do the following:

1. Open the Phone app.

2. Open the Contacts tab.

3. Double-tap or hit Control+Option+Space Bar when you are on Add.

4. Double-tap or hit Control+Option+Space Bar when you are on “first.” Type
somebody’s first name.

5. Hit Tab to go through all of the edit boxes.

6. When you are done activate “Done” by double-tapping on “Done” or hitting
Control+Option+Space Bar when you are on it.

7. It is recommended that Quick Nav be turned back on.

8. Hit the Home button or hit Control+Option+h on the keyboard to get back to
the Home screen.

The below is from a different source:

Before going into the various keyboard commands, there are a few things that
need mentioning. First, for Windows users, there are a couple noteworthy
differences between a traditional PC keyboard and an Apple keyboard. Instead of
the control, Windows, and alt modifiers, Apple devices use control, command,
and option. Control maps to control, Windos maps to option, and alt maps to
command.

Second, in the list of keyboard commands below, you will see references to a
“VO” modifier. In the world of Apple, the “VO” (or VoiceOver) key is control +
option. That is, if the keystroke says, for example, “VO + down arrow”, you
perform this keystroke by holding down control and option, then pressing the
down arrow.

Third, when listing keys, what is being used is both a + (plus) and *
(asterisk) connectors. A + indicates which modifiers (such as control, command,
or option) are to be used. The * indicates the keys which are to be pressed
simultaneously. For example, “left arrow * right arrow” means you press the
left and right arrow keys at the exact same time.

Fourth, if you find some of the keys with multiple modifiers do not seem to
work with your Bluetooth keyboard, try using the other modifier. For example,
my Bluetooth keyboard has control, command, and option keys to the left of the
spacebar, but it also has an option key to the right of the spacebar. When
performing any commands that require holding down all three modifiers, such as
to increase the VoiceOver volume (VO + command + up arrow), I have to use the
right option key; if I use the left option key, the command does not work. This
is no doubt a limitation of my keyboard, not the iOS version being used.

Fifth, most of the text navigation commands that make use of the command key
can also be performed by substituting the control key for the command key

This is especially useful for some Windows-based Bluetooth keyboards.

Sixth, iOS has something called quick nav. Quick nav, when turned on, allows
for easier navigation between elements using the keyboard. To turn quick nav on
and off, you hit the left and right arrows simultaneously.

Seventh, the following 57 keyboard commands have been broken down into four
categories: general navigation, VoiceOver controls, text navigation, and
Unix-style

text navigation. For each action, listed is the corresponding keystroke when
quick nav is on and when quick nav is off. Some commands can only be performed
with quick nav either on or off, so the corresponding entry in the table states
N/A if the command does not apply. Also listed are the corresponding VoiceOver
screen gesture (where applicable) for reference and ease of transition.

 braille input

brian albriton <[email protected]>: Dec 14 10:11AM -0800

Hi, folks. on an apple podcast , it was mensioned you could use braille input
mode 9 password fields. i tried this on safari but when i swit* back to
portrai6 mode there are no characters in the pasword field. Has anyone been
able to use braille input for passwords? All the best, Brian

Alex Hall <[email protected]>: Dec 14 01:24PM -0500

You can. The problem is that Safari can't accept braille input in text fields,
it thinks every character is an attempt to jump to an element. The feature is
that you can type a braille h for headings, then flick up and down to move by
heading. The bug is that this mode can't be disabled to let you actually type
that h, or any other character, into a text field. Braille input works in apps
or on the passcode screen, but Safari needs to be updated before braille will
work there.

Hi all,
It's a conflict with Safari and Braille Input. It can only be used for
navigation. Please report this to Apple Accessibility. I have done this
already and still no fix. Remember though bugs seem to be ordered in
terms of highest priority first which isn't necessarily to do with
accessibility.

If you have a keyboard and disable QuickNav, does Braille input work in that
case? I can't seem to use the arrow keys on mine, so can't test it myself. This
navigation by Braille letter feature sounds like a QuickNav feature.

While it hasn't been updated in a long time, GigDaddy $2.99 has a good drum
machine, but is also a multi-track recorder.
It still works with iOS 8 though it hasn't been updated since 2011.
If you search for "free drum machine" there are tons of free apps you could
try out that would probably be less complex than GigDaddy.
Good luck,
Richard
