Hello list,
Please, I am very sorry for such a long e-mail, but I need to explain my
situation.
I hope it will not be very boring and you will read it to the end and
give me some help if possible.
I know this is very off-topic, but I really do not know where to ask.
My brother is in Spain; he got a job there. He has been there for about
three weeks. He still does not have internet connection where he lives.
However, he needs to be in touch, at least over the net (Facebook chat),
with family here in Slovakia. At first he used his Slovakian mobile
carrier, having roaming, but the carrier charged him very much for the
data, so he decided to get a local Spanish sim card called Digimobil. He
got "pay as you go" or "prepaid" sim card with 10 € credit. He has
activated 1 GB data package which cost him 8 € and he can use it for 30
days. He is almost out of the data and he needs top up credit on his sim
card and here are quite many things he is struggling with:
1. Firstly, since he has been in Spain only for three weeks, there is no
chance for him to speak and understand Spanish. Yes, of course, he can
understand something and he can speak a little but it is not at such
level so that he would be able to talk with the operators. His English
language skills are all the same so there is no point to either call the
carrier or go to the shop to top up credit this way.
2. Talking about shops, the carrier does not have any selling points
nearby. He lives in a small village and there are no shops of this kind.
They have only one grocery shop there and this shop does not sell
coupons to top up credit. As he works six days a week, there is no
chance for him going to the nearest town/city. He does not have access
to transport, plus Shops are usually closed on Sundays.
You might be wondering how he got the sim card them. Well, when he
arrived to Spain, someone just came to the airport to pick him up and on
the way to the place where he is now, they stopped somewhere and he
bought the sim card there, but is quite far away from his place.
3. Another option, which sounds the best, is to top up credit online.
But, unfortunately, this carrier does not accept paypal. They accept
credit cards but only those issued in Spain, Italy or Romania.
I know some carriers have something like monthly plan, but it is not
good for him, because with the monthly plan he must be on contract and
it would be useless for him since he does not know how long he will be
staying in Spain. His employer told him he will has his job contract
till the end of January then they will see if they can keep him.
I got in touch with Digimobil by e-mail asking them for help, but they
said they would give me all the information I need by phone not by
e-mail. I told them that international calls are quite expensive for me,
so they told me they will call me back, but I haven't had any response
so far. I am a bit sceptical about it.
When my brother arrived to Spain, the internet provider told him to have
internet the following day, but it has been three weeks and no internet
still.
Please does anyone know any other recommendation I could try?
To sum up, there is no Wi-Fi, no internet cafe nearby, so he does not
have access to the internet and he cannot be in touch with family, plus
he cannot reach any selling point to top up his sim card.
I would be very grateful for any kind of help.
Thank you in advance.
Have a nice day and a happy new year 2015
With kind regards
Maria
