I think of Bookshare like going to my local library. If I can't find
something through NLS or RFB, then I go to Bookshare to see if they have it.
You can find so many things there that are not available elsewhere. You can
download files as audio, or BRF which in turn you can convert to text files
on the computer - with voice dream they are simply downloaded as text files.
There are other formats as well. There is a subscription of $50 per year
which I think is well worth it. The text files are scanned, so the text is
not perfect; numbers or measurements as in recipes are useless because
Bookshare's scanning devices can't handle them.
I have a default voice running in Voice Dream and it's not so hot. I
don't know which one it is. I'll have to sample other voices. I'll play
with that through the help file in the app itself. Btw, did Bookshare ever
transfer your history from your computer/their site to the history on the
iPhone or was the person who told me this mistaken? If they once did and
recently this feature is no longer available. I definitely will call them to
comment on this. Deidre
