I just tried your below method of changing the alarm volume, and
it did indeed work just as you described for me on my iPhone 6
plus.

Hi Keith,
When you select your alarm tone it will play and while it is
playing I believe you just use the volume up/down keys to adjust
it to the level you like and it will then play at that volume
when it goes off.
I am not 100% certain this is so, but I'm pretty sure.

Hi,
Running an iPhone 6 with 8.1.2.
Somehow the Alarm volume got set at a very, very high loudness
level. I can't seem to find a way to tone it down.
VoiceOver volume is moderate and readily adjustable. Siri volume
is good. Ringer volume is set in settings to 35 % and adjusting
volume with buttons is turned off.
How can I turn down the volume on my Alarm?
