In short, anything you can get from the iTunes store you can use an iTunes
gift card. iTunes gift cards are as good as cash. I wait until somebody
has a special offer on iTunes gift cards where you pay less but get more in
credit example 50 bucks gift card for $40.

Yes you can. in fact, you can use it for anything iTunes related e.g. apps,
